Non-functional Ovarian Cyst?

functional ovarian cyst
Brooke J asked:

I was recently diagnosed with a cyst on my ovary. The DR is pretty sure it is a non-functional cyst due to the fact that I am already on birth control. He did an ultrasound and determined it was about 4mm at that time. He rescheduled me to come in after two more cycles to see if it gets bigger. It has only been 4 weeks and it has gotten larger due to the fact that I can actually feel it now if I palpate my lower abdomen. Should I go back sooner? Also, every one seems so calm about it, while its really making me worry because it is getting larger, causing pain, and is non-functional. Any advice or previous experience?

Does anyone know what happens to the ovary when a dermoid cyst is left there?

dermoid cyst
cassia asked:

Does the cyst destroy the ovary? The doctor tells me I have a dermoid cyst on my one ovary (already had my other ovary and tube removed with a previous dermoid cyst as they were torsed and infarcted and “not viable”). I’m inclined to leave it alone as I’m worried about the procedure itself and what that might do.
Thank you very much. You have both given me a lot to think about.

Ovarian dermoid cysts?

dermoid cyst
Layla asked:

I read up on what dermoid cysts are…but I still have a question about ovarian ones. I know it may be a ridiculously stupid question, but – lol I feel really dumb even asking this – can virgins have dermoid cysts on their ovaries? It’s not a cyst that develops from a failed pregnancy, right? Please don’t make fun of me :( I’m just concerned that I might have one (very painful left ovary and sometimes painful right one – I have a Dr. appt on Wed to see where the pain is coming from) and I want to know if even virgins can get them too. Obviously I’m not a virgin, but my family doesn’t know that I am sexually active and would hate to tell them this way, lol…please ease my mind…AND serious answers, PLEASE. If you don’t know the answer or feel the need to laugh at me…just go onto the next question. (And no, I’m not a dumb teenager, just a very misinformed 21 year old).

Thank you :-\

What are other treatments besides surgery for Ovarian Dermoid Cysts?

dermoid cyst
KO asked:

I have a seven year old son and while I was pregnant they had to keep watch because my dermoid cyst was increasing with size. Six weeks after my son was born I had surgery to have it removed….which they had to take my whole right ovary. During the surgery they found a smaller dermoid on my left ovary and removed 1/4 of my left ovary. Not too long after that my Doctor told me that there was another cyst growing on my remaining left ovary. Scared because I am under 30 and not married I would love to have more children if given the right opportunity/person (marriage). I am afraid that I will be limited to having just one more child due to what I’ve experienced with my first. And I would also like to avoid going under the knife. Does anyone know of any alternative treatments that would help? Also I have rarly experienced discomfort and just recently I have been feeling pains, abdominal bloating feeling of fullness, and the increasing of facial hair. HELP…Thanks!

What happens after an ovarian cyst ruptures?

Ovarian Cyst
Lava asked:

I was diagnosed with a ruptured ovarian cyst 3 months ago. The symptoms prior to the rupture were pains in my lower right abdomen first in the middle of my cycle then at random times. One day I had really bad pains and an ultrasound revealed a ruptured cyst on my right ovary. My doctor prescribed some painkillers for the pain.

Since then the pain continues at mid cycle and a few days before my period. It seems to be increasing in intensity and duration, Is this normal?

I have a dermoid cyst in my right ovary, is it safe for me to go to a theme park with all the bumpy rides?

dermoid cyst
Naz asked:

Hii. I have been diagnosed with a dermoid cyst in my right ovary. It is about 4.5cm wide. It does’nt bother me too much, but sometimes I get mild pains, I wanted to know, do you think its safe for me to go to theme parks this summer, eg Thorpe Park etc. I wasnt sure whether the bumpy rides and sudden movements would affect me in any way. Would anyone have any experience or knowledge about this??
