I am not sure what kind of cyst this is, I had a cyst a size of a plum on my ovary the dr. removed it before it burst. The best thing I can tell you is to wait until you see your doctor.
It is really up to you. Most doctors encourage women to get them removed. Reason being, is that it can cause the ovary to twist and cut off the blood supply which results in the ovary dying. (Ovarian Torsion) This is painful when it happens and this is something that requires emergent surgery. (Note….any cyst on the ovary can cause the ovary to twist, not just dermoids)
Do you have extreme pain from it? Some women choose to just wait and see. A dermoid cyst will not go away on it’s own. Do they know for sure that it is a dermoid? Or are they just thinking that it likely is? Usually the pre-op diagnosis is dermoid or endometrioma (also called a “chocolate cyst”). They find out definitively through laparoscopic surgery, in which they then remove it.
If you choose to have it removed, be aware that depending on the surgeon and their skills, they may remove your ovary as well. This doesn’t set to well with women who are still trying to become pregnant. There are surgeons out there that are able to remove the cyst and it’s lining and still preserve your ovary. Bring up these issues with your doctor. They will be able to explain all your options before hand.
