I would recommend Metformin to anyone with PCOS. I have PCOS and was having my period every 3 months and not ovulating. Within a month of being on Metformin I was having a period every month and ovulating. I was not able to get pregnant on Metformin alone because my luteal phase was too short, but a lot of women do. I’m on my first cycle on Clomid now.

i’ve had PCOS for 10 years. never had a reg period i started taking metformin and it made me reg.. the back in oct of 08 started taking clomid and metformin and in dec got pregnant. But the sad thing is i lost mine in jan. and now im back takin clomid. So if i was you i’d take the metformin that will reg you and then hopefully you’ll get pregnant. GOOD LUCK and lots and lots of baby dust..

It helped me..I use to get a period about 2-3 times a year. I have been on the metformin for 2 years..I did get pregnant in November., Taking met and clomid had miscarriage in December. But we are doing the treatment now..this is what we are doing..(just a future reference and what to expect if you choose to do more fertility tests.

We’ve went through testing and treatment for the last 6 years We have been trying for 8 years A gyno. would reccomend to anyone trying for a year or more to get fertility treatment First, for the woman, they draw blood test a variety of things that could impede (hormone levels, thyroid, etc). If they think you have a common infertility issue PCOS they’ll send you for ultrasounds. Generally if your just delving into the fertility options your GYN will review your situation and prescribe Clomid. Which if I remember right is a drug which kind of makes you hyper-ovulate. Clomid is prescribe for about 6 mos. if nothing at that point, they would probably do a test to check your fallopian tubes (hystersaliopingogram ??sp) and refer you to a reproductive endocrinologist. And that’s a whole other ball game so…… that’s where I’ll leave it.
for the man, then I assume that they would just do a basic fertility test checking sperm count, quality and mobility, and make recommendation based on that result.
Good luck to ya and hope this helps!

after losing 35 pounds, I started having a period on my own but they were 35 + days long and I would always ovulate late. My endo put me on met and once I got up to 2000mgs, my periods became text book 28 day cycles ovulating on or around cd 14. After 2 months of being on met at 2000mgs, I got a positive pregnancy test and my daughter just turned 11 weeks today.
